Hello,

The computer was just starting when I mistakenly switched off the power. Now it is giving me the 0xc000014c error, asking for the CD. I inserted the CD, but it does not give me the option for language nor the more important to Repair the installation. I can't get in there with F8 Advanced options either as the Repair option is not available there also.

I have a win 7 installation on the second partition and can see the files. From that I also performed a check disk, but that did not repair the start files.

Any solutions how to fix this problem. I was going to transfer files and accessory software installations to Windows 7, but this problem beat me to it !

Thank you...

Can you get to system restore to a time before the problem started?

OP resolved the problem...by using a downloaded disk which violates Microsoft EULA terms.

I removed his response because it suggested/detailed a violation of current websaite policy.

Recommending ISOs of Windows Recovery Discs or pre-made ISOs of WinPE-BartPE discs is not allowed - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic382841.html

:o Thank you for removing the link.

I sincerely did not question the legality of the link as it offers a download specifically to resolve some software problems only. It also says that it is not possible to use it as an installation in place of a proper (legal) version of the software.

I had already downloaded the Windows Vista PE software from Microsoft, but it was alas a bit of a long-winded chore creating the DVD. The whole shebang lock stock and barrel didn't take more than 6 - 7 minutes!

I wonder why Microsoft does not have them remove the Download if it is in anyway infringing on their copyrights. Nevertheless, I do thank Grinler for his post clarifying the murky ends at the bottom.
