Hello,

I am looking for some help here. My computer got infected Yesterday. I ran Malwarebyes and that cleared the main Virus but I still have Audio Ads playing randomly in the background. I can have no browser open but those Ads keep playing and I get redirected when using Google search. I also get Script error every so often. When I look at the process, there is nothing running there, Only way to stop it by killing Explorer.exe. I have run Rootkit Buster (Trend Micro), Tdss Killer, Malware Bytes, Hit Man Pro and Combofix. None of them are finding anything. I have also clear all my temps using Ccleaner. I also Uninstall Firefox (My Main Browser) and also reset Internet Explorer and also manually disabled all Browser. When None of this worked, I did a system restore to 2 weeks ago, the script error popped right back up as soon as I logged back in, I ran updated combofix again. Please help, I am not posting the Log as its says so i the forum rule but I ran it before reading this rule...

Thank you !

It won't let me Post the Combofix Log as it said that it was too long and File was it self too big to attach so I zipped it and then attached it
Attached File  ComboFix.zip   222.11KB   0 downloads

While I was waiting on you guys .. I moved the Old Combofix Log into a different location and Ran Combofix again and this time I got more readable size Log ... and even though this time it has deleted some items, the problem is still there ... Audio Ads and Redirection from Search Results.

Hello ,
And :welcome: to the Bleeping Computer Malware Removal Forum
. My name is Elise and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

I will be working on your malware issues, this may or may not solve other issues you may have with your machine.

Please note that whatever repairs we make, are for fixing your computer problems only and by no means should be used on another computer.
  • The cleaning process is not instant. Logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happen.
  • Please reply using the Add/Reply button in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Do not start a new topic.

Whenever I search on Google, first couple of click will redirect to random sites. I haven't used any other search engine. Also There is a Background Audio Playing all the time. Its like a Radio full with Ads. Sometimes, I will get a IE Script error and at that point the Audio stops until I click on Yes or No.
I have run multiple tools and nothing has found the infection. I am gonna stop running other tools now and wait for what you suggest.

Below is the DDS Log as Requested:

Hello again, lets first check for rootkits.

Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!
Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe (v2.4.0.0) from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version 2.3.2.2 of the tool.
  • Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it.
  • To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). If you do not see the file extension, please refer to How to change the file extension.
  • Click the Start Scan button.
  • Do not use the computer during the scan
  • If the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.
  • If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.
  • Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.
  • A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt (i.e. TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_27.07.2010_09.o7.26_log.txt) will be created and saved to the root directory (usually Local Disk C:).
  • Copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply.

regards, Elise

OK.. This is one tool that won't run no matter what I do ... I just tried again as well. I downloaded it and changed the name to kitty.com, xyz.scr and few others but it will not run.
I also killed all explorer.exe and all the browser using taskmanager and then tried running it.. still unsuccessfull...

I haven't tried it in Safemode yet as I am remoted in to my Computer and can't boot it in SMWN from here .. I will try it when i get home but when I tried it last time it didn't ran in Safe mode either.

One more thing, Previously when i was trying to run it, i tried using rkill before running it and it gave me BSOD.

I am gonna try from Safe mode when I get home unless you have any other suggestions.

Please try to run this tool.

Please download MBRCheck.exe by a_d_13 from one of the links provided below and save it to your desktop.Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
  • Double-click on MBRCheck.exe to run it. Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • It will open a black screen with some data on it...please do not fix anything (if it gives you an option).
  • When complete, you should see Done! Press ENTER to exit.... Press Enter on the keyboard.
  • A log named MBRCheck_date_time.txt (i.e. MBRCheck_07.21.10_10.22.51.txt) will be created on the desktop.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that log in your next reply.

I don't trust this altogether, which is why I would like to get an offline MBR dump. First lets try the following however.

COMBOFIX
---------------
Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:
Bleepingcomputer
ForoSpyware
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. (Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive.)
  • Double click on Combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, or if you are running Vista, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\Combofix.txt in your next reply.

regards, Elise

I would like to get an MBR dump at this point.

Try this please. You will need a USB drive.

Download GETxPUD.exe to the desktop of your clean computer
  • Run GETxPUD.exe
  • A new folder will appear on the desktop.
  • Open the GETxPUD folder and click on the get&burn.bat
  • The program will download xpud_0.9.2.iso, and upon finished will open BurnCDCC ready to burn the image.
  • Click on Start and follow the prompts to burn the image to a CD.
  • Remove the USB & CD and insert it in the sick computer
  • Boot the Sick computer with the CD you just burned
  • The computer must be set to boot from the CD
  • Gently tap F12 and choose to boot from the CD
  • Follow the prompts
  • A Welcome to xPUD screen will appear
  • Press File
  • Expand mnt
  • sda1,2...usually corresponds to your HDD
  • sdb1 is likely your USB
  • Click on the folder that represents your USB drive (sdb1 ?)
  • Press Tool at the top
  • Choose Open Terminal
  • Type the following and press enter:

    dd if=/dev/sda of=mbr.bin bs=512 count=1

  • Press Enter
  • After it has finished a file will be located on your USB drive named mbr.bin
  • Remove the USB drive and insert it back in your working computer and navigate to mbr.bin, zip it up and attach it to your next reply.

This will allow me to have a look at the MasterBootRecord of your drive and see if it is infected.

regards, Elise
