One and a half months ago, somebody walked off with Mark Bao's MacBook Air, which had been left unattended in a Bentley University lounge. Normally, this episode would have been entirely unremarkable except for a victim understandably frustrated, angry - and out-of-pocket to the tune of $1,000-plus. But Bao wasn't your typical 18-year-old freshman. He knew his way around a keyboard - and then some.

He had taken the precaution of installing online backup software (called BackBlaze) on the computer and that now allowed him to gain entry into the purloined machine's browser history as well as to view its hard drive where he could track any updates. "It was still backing up files when I logged in on Sunday," he said in an email to CBSNews.com.

The person absconding with Bao's computer almost immediately used it take a self photograph....

That wasn't all.

"From the files on the computer and some legwork, I was able to track down who (the thief) was, his Facebook page, his email, and the (now) infamous videos," Bao noted.

in that case, it should be. They should drop theft charges, and charge him with scarring the minds of over 700,000 people.

Hmmm, a similar story here: Defcon 18 Pwned By the owner What happens when you steal a hackers computer zoz part (a YouTube video - a long one, but funny!) - certainly not a good idea to steal somebody's computer, and it certainly may get worse if you use it without reinstalling the OS first...

Never believe that you can get away with stealing any thing. That is what my Dad taught us.

The smart ones do. And I say smart by comparison, if you ask me stealing is in itself stupid. Those thieves who steal would get mad if anyone stole their stuff even if it was the stuff they stole to begin with. They should save their money and buy it or do without like the rest of us

I think that is the reason of why they steal. They dont have a good job and cant afford anything.

I doubt it. Most of the people on the streets may steal, but they steal FOOD because their hungry. A good amount of people, are like the kid in the video. That kid had a job, in fact if you had read the article was worried that hed lose his job because of the video of him dancing. No, at least in america, a lot of people steal for the same reason they vandalize stuff. No respect for anyone else, they want it, they think its funny, or they see a quick buck so they steal. And they dont steal the things they need-notice this kid, he had a job, he didnt need that mac, but he stole it. and he also, didnt sell it, so he obviously didn't need money, no he stole it so he could upload a stupid video of himself dancing. Serious kid, go to walmart, purchase a 20 dollar web cam, and hook it up to your older laptop that Im sure you have. You can do the same thing.
