Cd/dvd Burner

I bought a dvd/cd/r/rw and I took out my dvd rom and put the writer in its place. My computer isnt recognizing it, and I didnt receive a disk with my writer. What do i do?

Hi colnacl,

I would check to make sure all cables are secure - power and data - not only at the back of the drive, but on the motherboard as well. Also, take a look at the jumpers on the back of your drives. Beside the IDE or 40 pin connection, there should be 6 to 8 pins with a jumper across 2 of them. The may me labeled: Master M; Slave SL; or Cabel Select CS. Make sure the jumper on the new drive matched the setting on the old on. Try that and if that doesn't help, please post back with background info on your computer. (Operating system, make/model of computer. etc)
