Do you have the latest BIOS for your computer's motherboard?

Computer came in with bad hard drive...I slapped a 160gb drive in but had no restore disks so installed Ubuntu 10.10 that installed flawless. They had one bios upgrade listed on their site but listed for upgrading with issues with 4gb of memory problems. I have to have Windows installed to update bios. This computer had Vista installed originally.

I might be looking at flashing vista temporally to get the bios flashed...That would be my next step...

Flashed put in another hard drive and loaded vista to do flash with the latest from HP/Compaq site. No change!
unsupported CPU detected. I wonder what CPU will work on the board now. It says it is a ECS MCP61PM-HM Rev 1.08b (nettle)

The processor you are attempting to install should work really work. But you are better off calling HP for help as cryptodan mentioned.

Hey Guys...I was reading the specs a little closer...
Socket type: AM2
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
Athlon 64 X2 with Dual Core technology up to 4800+ (up to 65 Watt TDP)
Athlon 64 up to 3800+
Sempron - All

Its says MAX 65 watts ...my 4200 is a 89 watt processor. I was studying the specs and realized...I am going to buy this one of FeeBay...It is the max I can go and the voltage looks in spec..learned something again..;-)
eBay Auction

Thanks Roy
I will post if it is a success!!! woop woop!
