When the laptop gets turned on it just gets stuck on the BIOS splash screen, to make it go on booting to windows, i have repetitively press space bar to get it going. Any ideas on fixing this?

The M70 series laptops comes under several model numbers, the model you are referring to is a discontinued product, but support documents are still available for it.

The problem is you did not supply the whole model number for this laptop.

Here is an Australian Toshiba web site support link, scroll down to the Satellite section and choose the correct one, an example of a model number is like this: m40 psm40a-037009

You're looking for this.

When the computer starts up, the self test will be run automatically, and the following will be displayed:

Posted Image

This message remains on the screen for a few seconds.
If the self test is successful, the computer tries to load the operating system based around how the Boot Priority option is set within the computer's BIOS setup.
If any of the following conditions are present, the self test failed:

  • The computer stops and does not proceed to display information or messages except the TOSHIBA logo.
  • Random characters appear on the screen, and the system does not function normally.
  • The screen displays an error message.
Turn off the computer and check all cable connections as well as PC Card and memory module connections. If the test fails again, contact your dealer.
