Hi, i am a student and am new to this site so please forgive me if i am not fully fluent in computing lingo!

I first noticed a problem 2 days ago when i switched my laptop on and a programme called Windows Recovery was running, trying to make me buy some software as my hard drive had broke?! i Googled online and it said it was a malware virus? by following instructions on a previous message on bleeping computer i managed to get rid of it with rkill and malwarebytes, but i still seem to have an annoying pop up from windows stating GoogleToolbarUser_32.exe - Bad Image at the top of the window. It also seems to be redirecting all my internet searches and I am scared that the virus is still on my laptop.

Please can someone tell me how to get rid of it!
Thanks

Note: I've asked a moderator to move this thread to the 'Am I Infected' forum.

Could you please post the results from MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware? I'd like to get a look at what was found and removed.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

  • Open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Select the Logs tab
  • Click on the latest log. The bottom most log is the latest
  • Click Open
  • Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply.

Running ComboFix
Download Combofix from either of the links below, and save it to your desktop.

Link 1
Link 2

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

--------------------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

Note: If AVG or CA Internet Security Suite is installed, you must remove these programs before using Combofix. If for some reason these applications will not uninstall, try uninstalling with AppRemover by Opswat.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt for further review.
