I've been coming to this site off and on for a year or so. I'm a mostly self-taught computer tech living in Northern Vermont. In this area, about 50% of the population is still using dial-up internet services, mainly because of their remote locations. Not even satellite is available to some of my clients. The nearest repair outlet, other than me, is about 30 miles away... so I keep pretty busy.
People here tend to hang onto their computers until every last bit of life is squeezed out of them, so I'm still dealing with a couple of computers running Windows 98, believe it or not! As a matter of fact, I received a call from a gentleman the other day who wanted me to set him up with high-speed internet access. When I turned on his computer, imagine my surprise when I found that he was running Windows 95!! I managed to talk him into buying a new computer (thank goodness).
So here I am... taking the plunge and joining the group. I've gotta say, I've connected with this group in silence for quite awhile. You've helped me save a computer on more than one occasion, and I'm very grateful you're all out here.
