Hello, We recently removed 'System Tool' with Combofix after which computer ran fine now a week later, the F8 safe mode window will not come up, it only displays 'Keyboard failure' message. Is it possible that the keyboard has become unplugged? or that the keyboard has actually failed? I have yet to check connections at the rear of computer. Thanks, Shanhorn

This computer is hanging in DOS mode

What do you mean DOS Mode?

Have you tried another keyboard?

the boot from cd failed to boot, failed to repair. Is it possible for the 40GB hd to have failed??

How about a motherboard failure?? The F8 & F12 bring up the same bios info and dell info with a Keyboard falure

Hello shanhorn,
Since you mention you can tap F8, I assume your keyboard is functioning, despite the warning? After this you see the blinking cursor?

What about Safe mode? If you choose this from the F8 menu, do you see drivers rolling over the screen or does it remain black?

regards, Elise

I couldnt get the F8 menu, F8 brought up the BIOS version/manufacturer and then some DELL info and then Keyboard failure.

This computer was purchased in 2002 with the hard drive having been stopped and started by hard stopping w/power button. I imagine the old 40GB HD just quit I saw no disc activity on the light nor could you hear the drive spinning. All connections inside where good, I think the HD just up-n-died.

This client went out and purchased a new bundle of tower, monitor, keyboard/mouse. I set it up for them, they opted for store pre-purchased tech support.

Thanks for the continued support here!

It can be indeed any hardware failure. Glad to hear your client is up and running again.

regards, Elise
