Over the last few days the above update has installed on my pc several times, each time with the same result, Windows won't load. I get a black screen, have to turn off my pc by the power button and then the system goes into the Windows Startup Recovery process. At the end of this process it asks if I want to restore my PC to an earlier time, I accept this option and everything is then OK. But this update is waiting to be installed again.

How can I stop this update from trying to install?

Turn off automatic updates...and manually choose the updates which you wish to install...when you choose to install them?

LOL...if there is anything I could ever be master of...it's the obvious :).

Being a lazy person by choice and temperament...I tend to try the easiest alternatives first :).

Let us know if you still have problems.

Thanks, I think it should be OK now that I can choose not to install that update. :)

Any ideas why that particular update was causing me problems? From searching online it seems to be something to do with turning off autorun. Every time it installed Windows would fail to start.

Windows Update...has always had problems, just as every O/S has startup/shutdown issues.

Although there is a wealth of data collected on update problems...I find it tedious to wade through all that and search for a possible solution.

It's just easier to not run the auto update feature...or at least do so only when it's working properly.
