I have a machine that will not boot into Windows XP Pro. All hardware on the computer tests good. Normally when the computer would begin booting from the HDD, it simply shows a black screen with a white blinking cursor. I have tried FixMBR, Fixboot, and rebuilding the boot.ini . The only way I can get it to boot is if I put my Windows 7 PE disk in and tell it to "Find and boot NTLDR of Windows" from the disk's GRUB4DOS loader.

What can I do to get this computer booting again?

What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?

From this do you mean that you have no XP CD at all ? ? If you did , a sfc /scannow would be the second item to run -
The first item to run (unless Repair install as per hamluis) would be chkdsk /r -
