Hi, thanks in advance for any assistance.

OK, so thought id do my mate a favour and clean of the lap top he managed to screw up with all kinds of crap, managed to sort all of the bad stuff out with things i had learnt from this website previously, thanks to the site for having the info needed, then it advised a windows update was available, this downloaded without problem, then when it tried to restart to install updates it hanged on the start up advising "service pack did not install reverting to previous settings" nothing happens, i dont have any of the original CD's or back ups, I was trying to get to the system restore through the safe modes which ive found before in a windows 7 lap top but it is not there, all the safe mode options take me to the same start up screen and advise regarding reverting to previous settings. what if anything can be done, can the system restore be accessed through the F10 menu or the F2/DEL boot menu's.

any help would be mahoosively appreciated.

cheers.
