Thank you in advance for your kind assistance. I don't know what I'd do without this wonderful website!

Malwarebytes 1.50.1.1100 has been blocking multiple IP addresses for several months now, stating "Successfully blocked access to a potentially malicious website" each instance. This happens multiples times on a daily basis,

Here is just a cross-section of those IP addresses:

89.28.100.87
212.113.35.101
188.65.50.46
89.28.18.30
85.234.172.149
91.188.44.78
89.28.94.52
222.186.223.86
213.55.112.65
212.113.58.200
77.78.217.230
212.117.168.82
212.113.34.50
218.7.221.63
212.113.33.230
219.146.254.215
94.96.48.233
89.28.61.55
212.113.55.110
94.96.83.36
222.65.211.130
83.128.130.253
89.28.22.141
218.8.48.200
83.128.130.253
94.96.7.60
83.128.130.253
58.241.29.174
89.28.90.240

I can't determine that any program I installed on my system is contacting these IP addresses, so I must assume that there's spyware or malware on my computer that's doing so.

BTW, if it makes any difference, I'm running Windows XP on a Macintosh via VMWare Fusion 3 with the Windows system installed on a Boot Camp drive.

Below is my HiJack This log I just ran:

I should note that I tried to run D.D.S. to get the installed programs log in preparation for troubleshooting, and it causes my system to freeze. The progress bar of colons increases to the right with a cursor blinking underneath, and then the progress just stops. If I click anywhere on the screen at that point (or at any point, quite frankly), my whole system freezes irretrievably (i.e., Ctr-Alt-Delete won't even work) within VMWare Fusion 3 off of Boot Camp, but my Mac side isn't affected.

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Somethings to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please Do not Attach logs or put in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

Click on the Watch Topic Button and select Immediate Notification and click on proceed, this will help you to get notified faster when I have replied and make the cleaning process faster.

In order for me to see the status of the infection I will need a new set of logs to start with.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

  • DeFogger may ask you to reboot the machine, if it does - click OK
Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

When I try to run DDS, even in Safe Mode, it never finishes what it's supposed to be doing. When I try to close the command window, the entire system freezes irretrievably.

DeFogger worked, and I have attached the RKUnHooker log for you.

If you have any idea how to allow DDS to finish its script, I'd appreciate the advice!

Thank you for your help.

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

I experienced the same problem with ComboFix that I had with D.D.S., namely that the terminal window never gives any indication it's done, even after an hour, so I'm forced to try and close it which never works (system freezes). Same thing happens in Safe Mode.

Thank you.

I have no idea why running ComboFix this other way worked, but it did!

When I ran CombiFix the first time using this method, I got a report that was too long to copy/paste here, so it's attached as a file. When I ran ComboFix again, the resulting log was much shorter and is copied below.

BTW, what does /nombr actually do?

Hello

Resetting Router

Letís try to reset the router to its default configuration.
  • This can be done by inserting something tiny like a paper clip end or pencil tip into a small hole labeled "reset" located on the back of the router.
  • Press and hold down the small button inside until the lights on the front of the router blink off and then on again (usually about 10 seconds).
  • If you donít know the router's default password, you can look it up. Here
  • You also need to reconfigure any security settings you had in place prior to the reset.
  • You may also need to consult with your Internet service provider to find out which DNS servers your network should be using or you can use OpenDNS
Note: After resetting your router, it is important to set a non-default password, and if possible, username, on the router. This will assist in eliminating the possibility of the router being hijacked again.

flush the DNS:

Now lets flush the DNS on the computer:

  • click on Start
  • select run
  • enter cmd and hit enter
  • a black window will open.
  • please enter the following text into that window and hit enter:

    ipconfig /flushdns

Now lets check the router again

Create and Run Batch File
Open Notepad and copy/paste the entire contents of the codebox below, into Notepad:
@echo off
>Log1.txt (
ipconfig /all
nslookup google.com
nslookup yahoo.com
ping -n 2 google.com
ping -n 2 yahoo.com
route print
)
start Log1.txt
del %0
Save this as router.bat Choose to Save type as - All Files and where to save - Desktop - then close the Notepad file.

It should look like this: Posted Image <--XP
Double-click on router.bat to run it. it will open notepad when done please post back the results

I'm confused about this step. Did the information I posted show that the router had indeed been hijacked?

I run Windows XP via Mac emulation on two other computers, plus a Windows 7 Gateway machine, and none of those three (which have pretty much the same software as my problematic XP and are all connected to the same Netgear router) exhibit any symptoms. They all have Malwarebytes, and the only time it blocks anything is when I somehow wind up at a questionable website.

I'd rather not start fooling with something that isn't broken. Thank you for any clarification you can provide.

If there's a way to identify what software is identified with contacting the 45+ outgoing IP addresses I've provided, that would be very helpful.

Thank you.

I want you to run this tool for me next.

tdsskiller:

Please read carefully and follow these steps.
  • Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
  • doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.
  • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue.
  • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.
  • If no reboot is require, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory, (usually C:\ folder) in the form of "TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt". Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
