Having problem with google searches in Firefox being redirected when you select a result. This happens sporadically, not always and seems to be redirected to scour.com search mostly. I have ran my normal Mcafee anti virus, along with the McAfee command line scan in safe mode and didn't find anything. I ran malware bytes and found one malware stor.cfg file that was removed. The redirect still occurs. I checked hosts and lmhosts and internet proxy settings and all looked fine to me. The computer were this is happening is mostly logged in by a user account with only user, not administrator or Power User access on a Windows xp sp 3 computer. I have included the DDS.txt file and attached the Attach.txt file from the DDS.SCR file. I'm having problems with the gmer executable. It seems to freeze when running and then I had to cold boot the computer and now the computer is running extremely slow, but I'm not sure why and I can't get the gmer.exe to complete a scan. I will continue trying and if I complete it I will attach that file too.

Thanks
.

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Somethings to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please Do not Attach logs or put in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

Click on the Watch Topic Button and select Immediate Notification and click on proceed, this will help you to get notified faster when I have replied and make the cleaning process faster.

In order for me to see the status of the infection I will need a new set of logs to start with.

I ran these as administrator. My user mstrupeck is the one who had the original virus, so if you need me to run as her, let me know. Since starting this, I was running gmer (test.exe) and it froze on the \driver\pciide (I think, I didn't write it down) and now it freezes everytime I run gmer. It starts up extremely slow and is running slow, slower at startup then after it is up and going, like something is failing and retrying and finally completes retrying and then things speed up, but I have no idea what. I do not see any errors in the eventvwr that points me in a certain direction. Thanks for any help you provide.

Hello

It is ok that it can't run GMER some computers can't run it.

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

my combofix is stuck at the http:\\download\microsoft.com 3% state for about 45 minutes. What do you suggest? It has internet access, so I'm not sure of the issue. Can I restart it?

Greetings

How is the redirects doing now?

Good That cleaned up some bad guys but I see some other stuff that we need to go after, so I want you to run this custom script for me.

:Run CFScript:

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the box into the window:

Driver::
1b26
30b8
488A
4bb2
96f7
aa74
c03B
c48C
ea63

Save it to your desktop as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe
Posted Image
This will let ComboFix run again.
Restart if you have to.
Save the produced logfile to your desktop.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following

  • report from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now after running the script?

Here is the log after running combofix with the CFScript.txt. So, can you give me any information on the items that Combofix cleaned up, as to what they are and what they did. Are they definitely known items associated with the google redirect or just items that do not look kosher for a normal computer setup? I haven't spent enough time doing google searches to determine if the virus is fixed, because the redirect was random and sometimes didn't happen for a few days at a time. I will continue testing.

Thanks,
Joann
