Hi,
I tried to install recovery console using the tutorial procedure but ran into a problem. My XP start-up disk is SvcPk0 and I've been a good boy and installed all the critical updates, so I'm now on SvcPk3. When I try to install Recovery Console I get a message that my files are newer than the disk and do I want to quit or overwrite them. I chose Quit. Is there another way to load Recovery Console? Would it do irreparable damage to my PC if I used ComboFix to install the Console? Thanks for your assistance.... :busy:

I think everyone should install the recovery console as a boot option - glad you've chosen to do it. Let's make this easy - create a slipstream XP SP3 disk and then install the rc. And the kicker is you'll now have an XP Sp3 bootable disc. here are the instructions: http://lifehacker.com/#!386526/slipstream-service-pack-3-into-your-windows-xp-installation-cd
