Please tell me if it is activated. If not tell me how to turn it on. Also i heard these things are hard to configure to maximize protection, so please tell me how to configure it.

It sounds like you are not linked. Does your computer see the LAN?

Check in your Device Manager (you can find it by going to start menu>administrative tools>computer managment>device manager) Check network adapters.
patiently patrolling, plenty of persisant pests n' problems ...

While you are there chech the box that shows the status in the taskbar next to the clock.
