Hi

I woke up to a full inbox of returned mail and out of office automated responses to scores of emails that were apparently sent by me.
I worry about how many emails actually have got through to friends, family, colleagues etc.
It appears a bot has accessed my contacts list - as far as I can make out.

I have run scans through my firewall and anti virus software and also spyware and malaware scans with nothing being found.
Is there anything else I should do?

Thank you for your help.

Hello.

First of all. . . you should change all your passwords.

Secondly. . . what have you scanned with?

I changed my passwords as soon as I realised what had happened.

I scanned with updated versions of Malawarebytes, Superantispyware, Sophos anti-virus and Microsoft Security Essentials.

Friends and family have confirmed they were sent emails containing Viagra spam.

Hello.

Are the spam messages still being sent?

Hello, thank you for your help. No, the messages are not still being sent.

There were returned messages when it happened last weekend, from the server saying that the sending limit had been reached.
I think these messages may be stored and an attempt may be made to resend them later by the server?

Hello.

You should contact your email provider: they should be able to clear the server of any pending messages if there are any. However, I doubt this is the case.

Unless the behavior recurs I would say that this is probably a matter of your account being compromised, and not an infected machine. Having changed your password to a different, more secure one I would say that you're probably all right particularly since none of your scans found anything.

Yes, I did think about contacting them, but looking at similar problems posted from other users of this email server, I think that the provider is decidedly uninterested in solving this problem, so I don't think I'll bother. I've started using a different email address for the important stuff.
Thank you very much for your help.

I am having the same problem with spam being sent out of my email. I have changed my passwords and I have run malwarebytes and avast and they detected nothing.
