Hello all,
I am trying to put an old ATI 2400 Pro graphics card in a Dell Precision 350. The service tag # is GDL5S21. I am having a horrible time finding the driver for the card. When I go to ATI's website, the have one available, but it doesn't work. I have tried allowing the setup to install and installing the extracted driver manually. No dice.

Any help would be awesome!!

Thanks in advance!

When you say does`t work. No dice with a manual install?

Just what happens?

Error messages?

What operating system is on the Dell?

It appears that the driver installs. No error messages. It even had me restart the first time I "installed" it. When the computer rebooted, I checked the device manager and the display driver is still listed under "other devices". It is listed as "Video controller (VGA compatible)".
The OS is Windows XP Pro SP 3.

Thank you for looking into this!

First thing, you are using the ATI 10.2 legacy drivers?

I am a retired Ford tech. Next to Fords, any computer is a piece of cake. (The cake, its not a lie)

3770K @4.5, Corsair H100, GTX780, 16gig Samsung, Obsidian 700 (yes there is a 700)

So far, I have tried 3 different drivers. I believe they are 8.10, 10.2 (legacy), and 11.2.

this sounds like you need to install motheboard chipset drivers first

My answers are my opinion only, usually

Is there any reason you have not tried the Radeon driver specified for your machine on the Dell website?

I tried that first.... I get a message that says hardware doesn't match the driver (in more or less words).

Good looking out tho! :)

That service tag actually shows several different video cards for that model. 3 ATI and an Nvidia.

I have to ask. You are sure it is an ATI card(?).

Yeah, I just swapped it between computers... Unfortunately, the PC that the card came from was disposed of before I could even check the HD for the driver (think it was dead anyway). Also, I checked dell for the driver of the video card for that PC and it turns out, it was put in later. Of course the driver disk is long gone.

So originally this PC had a different card.

Did you go through add\remove to see if the previous software\drivers were uninstalled?

Another quick question that I have to ask.

In Device Manager, there is absolutely no Display Driver shown. Usually third down in the list without expanding any of the + symbols.
