Well. My problem is is that if I hold down a key on the keyboard, it wont allow me to move the mouse around, which is making it hard to play games on it. Any guesses what the problem could be?
Thank you,
~Randy.

Hi Randy, you know the routine, what is the maker of the hardware in question and how is it hooked up to the computer?

Bruce.

It's a laptop so its all PnP. It says it is just generic. I reformatted my computer a couple days ago. I use synaptics for the touchpad and I'm just using the driver that windows downloaded for the keyboard. When I did dxdiag I get device id *pnp0303 and service i8042prt.

Yes. It's the touchpad. When I hold down a key on the keyboard the mouse is unable to move. But if I hold down lets say w, and then press d and let go of d, the mouse is free to move. But it wont work just holding down a single key. Always have to press a second key.

Without my looking up your laptop, does your laptop have a port for an external mouse?

A usb mouse yes. A regular mouse port no.

Try a USB mouse if you can get your hands on one just to see if it makes a diiference.

Please let me know if you're experiening the same problem.

Bruce.

The USB mouse doesn't lock up. Only the touchpad does.

Okay would it be possible to play the game using the USB mouse?

I know you would have to get used to it, or you can do like I do, I have a Sony PS-3 6 axis game controller on my USB port for gaming.

If you have one of those controllers that have a USB plug on them you can use it on your computer, you just need the software to make it work.

Bruce.

I mostly play only games so cant really use a controller. But yeah I could use a mouse. It'll be fairly complicated seeing as I'm usually on a flat surface such as my bed and whatnot. Just don't understand why the touchpad would lock up like that though.

Well it could be the fact the touch pad is right next to the other buttons and any interaction you have in that area causes the pad to react, thus the issue causes the system to get confused and lock up on you.

I have seen this before, however one situation was to decrease the sensitivity of the touch pad a bit so it was not so reactive to the presence of a hand near by.

Believe it or not, I used to use my keyboard on all the games I played, then I figured out how to get the PS-3 game control to work and be able to program the buttons as well.

Bruce.
