Hi , I've recently been directed here from the Malware forum . I am having corrupted files which now are malware-free and I tried to do a upgrade reinstall to my system . However , at the final stage where my files are being transferred back, the updates fail and my windows is rolled back .

Could someone please help me on how to solve this? I would like to reinstall windows 7 without losing my data .

I am holding the Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit Upgrade CD which I've got from the Dell Upgrade program. Please help . Thanks !

I've uploaded the windows compatibility report ( it was the report i found on the desktop after the failed install)

iTunes was a problem for my upgrade also. You need to open iTunes and in the 'Store' drop down menu, and then you need to de-authorize your PC.
Open Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, and select ATI Catalyst Control Manager. Select remove and then select 'Express uninstall all ATI software. You can reinstall this later.
If you still have a problem with iTunes after deauthorizing, you may have to remove it and reinstall it after the upgrade. Use this guide if you need to remove iTunes: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923

The 'malware/virus infection was removed and you can now log in as an administrator and reach the desktop, right?

erm yes i supppose . does that mean i should log in the administrator account in safe mode ? At the moment I get mmc.exe is not a valid win32 application whenever i try to open Device Manager or Services in Administrative Tools which is supposedly caused by corrupted files system . SFC scannow could not repair the files too.

To perform an 'Upgrade Repair' you need to log into Windows with a User account with 'Administrative' privileges. You need to log on as you normally would. Refer to this tutorial on how to do the repair. Scroll down about two pages until you see 'HERE'S HOW:' in green letters.

i followed every step . The problem is during the upgrade , everything turns out fine except it will fail when it is in the last stage (transferring programs files ,registry... at 60%) .

Did you install the SP-1 Update? It was available on February 22, 2011.

O.K. Let's try this...
Open an 'Elevated Command Prompt' . Copy this text---> findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt
...and then Paste it into the Command Window. This will place a 'txt' file on your Desktop called "sfcdetails". Upload this txt file and provide me a link so I can download it and see which files couldn't be repaired.

FINDSTR: Cannot open De\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

got no log file appearing. I've moved the old CBS log file out and will do SFC scan now again . hopefully they will produce a new cbs log with just the scan details ?

Yes. After SFC is finished, see Option 3 in these instructions: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
This should place the txt file on the Desktop.
