My wife and I both have laptops. I got the Windows Anti-virus virus and successfully removed it with MBAM about a year ago. I haven't had any trouble since. My wife recently got what appeared to be the same virus, and I went through the same steps on her computer and removed several files with MBAM, but, to our dismay, just a few hours after our "success" it returned without further use of her computer. I am obviously not versed in virus removal, but I ran a rootkit scan. The scan didn't flag any of the thousands of files it found. They all said that removal was not recommended. They were mainly The Sims 2 files. I have scanned the computer using MBAM and Sophos AV, but no progress seems to have been made as it always comes back.
I don't know if all this is necessary, but:
Her machine is a Lenovo R61i Thinkpad
Model number:8932G8U
OS: Windows Vista Business (6.0 Build 6002)
BIOS: Ver 1.00PARTTBL
Processor: Intel Pentium Dual Core CPU T2390 @ 1.86GHz (2 CPUs), ~1.9GHz
She also has a program called Hide Folders, which is why the rootkit scan found so many hidden files, that she uses to hide her Sims stuff and Fiction works from the In Laws. lol The files were unlocked when the MBAM scan was ran.
One can only Google so much before exhaustion. Help would be greatly appreciated. We will stay online to keep in contact. If any other information is required please, just ask.
