Do upgrading SP2 to SP3 demand completely reformat PC?My PC can't upgrade by automatic update.

No. Just download and install the update.

I don't think Win Update will process downloads to systems minus SP3 now :). In fact...I know it won't :).

You can download SP3 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en and then install it from your system.

Why is that?

Do you receive any error messages?

No, XP is updatting and installing various updates (IE security update etc) but didn't upgrade to SP3 by automatic update.

Have you manually gone to Windows updates and let it scan your system?

If that fails did you follow the link provided by Louis in post #4?

Ok,upgraded to SP3 without reformatting.

I take that to be a yes, the install was successful via Hamluis's advice.
