Hi. Based on an article I read at TechRepublic or ZdNet, cannot remember, that recommended ComboFix and to only download it from BleepingComputer or another site. As a member I chose here. I disabled my McAfee antivirus and Firewall as directed. Ran ComboFix.exe and all I saw was a green status bar, which closed after about 15-20 seconds without any other action or display.

Now,after getting rid of ComboFix.exe, I cannot get my desktop personalized with any pictures, only basic colors. When I try to get to pictures by way of "Browse", I can only see some strange icons, no pictures, after I select the folder I want in My Pictures. Screen shot attached.

I've tried a "Restore" (among some other fixes, e.g. SFC) to before running ComboFix.exe and the desktop is still black. I've listed some basic system info below, in summary however, I'm using a Toshiba Satellite A135, Vista Home Basic SP2, 2M RAM.

Any advice or suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated. I do NOT want to re-install Vista for the fifth time since 2006.

Thanks,

Robert Goltz

Hello,

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<==. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include a description of your computer issues and what you have done to resolve them.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

OB, thank you for your reply to my post. Give a day or two to do everything in "This Guide" and to create the log(s). I appreciate your offer to assist.

Respectfully,

Robert
