Hi,

I'm looking at someones PC that either the mother board is fried or something else is wrong that I don't know about. I'm hoping someone can help me here.

It loads to a black screen with white font type:

Type the password and ...
-- press <enter> to leave password security enabled.
-- press <ctrl><enter> to disable password security.
Enter Password: _(blinking cursor)

Only it doesn't except any password and it doesn't load into Windows XP the OS on it.

Most Google search indicates that the mother board is fried. Any other Google search suggestions I tried but didn't work.

I'm hoping that someone here has a little more knowledge and will share it. Any help will be appreciated.

if the board was bad you wouldn't get anything on the screen .
sounds like maybe its a bios password,or a windows password ,if you don't know the correct password its not going to work

My answers are my opinion only, usually

Sounds to me like there is a security program flashed into the BIOS chip.

Some Government computers have this flashed into the BIOS so access can not be gained to the hard drive or the system.

Is this a Government issued computer that you know of?

Here is support from Dell for this computer.

Hi,

There is a sticker on it:

IT Equipment
X Overwriting of data
__Degaussed
Hard Drive
________Removed______Destroyed

Some Guy's Signature A Date
IT Name Date

I think it may have been a Milwaukee Public School PC, they tend to donate their Old PCs for kids and what not.

In any case, I've tried Dell's "CTRL F11" for a total re-install but that didn't work either but I have gotten it to accept a total re-install from my Instillation CD.

So, it's updating at Microsoft right now, we'll see how it goes.

Hopefully it's fixed but I'll be back if it isn't.

John

Thanks for the help!

PS I'll also update from the Dell site.
