Hi people,

I tried updating my Microsoft Security Essentials & for some reason it didn't work. The MSE box told me it failed & to reinstall MSE. I downloaded it & it's a binary file. How do I open this file & does MSE download from this binary file?

Thanks for any help

Hello.

What file did you download? Please provide a link. If you cannot, at least provide the file name including the extension.

With Regards,
The Panda

Thank you for responding Propaganda

Here's the link to the download...

It's titled "mseinstall.exe" & the type of file is a "Binary File"

I researched binary files & found that they're usually files that you use to burn a CD. Besides wondering how to open & download this file so I can have MSE on my computer, I'm confused as to why it isn't a regular file that simply downloads the program onto ones computer

Thanks again for any help

Hello.

That is a regular executable installer file. You should be able to just run it. What happens when you double click the file?

By the way, please tell me what Operating System you are using.

With Regards,

Strange... I double clicked on the file twice before & a box opened asking me which program I wanted to use to open it. That's the reason for this post

Just now I decided to try once again & it simply opened & went through the motions. Computers can truly be perplexing & ridiculous

Anyway, case solved. Thank you for your time Panda. I appreciate you guys for all the help you give

If the warning looked like either of these:

Then all that Windows is telling you is, "hey! this file came from the internet. Bad stuff lives on the internet. Make sure you trust the place on the internet that you got this file from!"
