Ok, first I hope I got this in the right forum...please direct me to the right one if necessary.

Well, my university network keeps blocking me out of the system and tells me that my laptop has been compromised by a bot. I have Microsoft Security Essentials and it is up to date. I believe my spyware is Windows Defender. I have run full scans using Microsoft Security Essential and found nothing. I downloaded the free version of Malwarebytes and did both the quick scan and full scan. They both found nothing. I was able to get access to the university's network once more, but I am still afraid that I might have something. After doing some research online, it was suggested that I do a HijackThis scan and put the log up on your forum for inspection. My roommate has a theory that the university's malware detection system might be finicky...but I would like to be sure that I am indeed clean. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Hi jry370, and welcome to Bleeping Computer.

Please follow our Preparation Guide For Use Before Using Malware Removal Tools and Requesting Help, and post the logs requested! Since you're using a 64bit system, there is no need for a Gmer scan - post just the DDS.txt and Attach.txt logs...

Hi again jry370!!.. :)

Your logs look clean to me... It's hard to say what was/is causing your connection being blocked by your University - maybe a legitimate application tried to connect with the IP address on their blacklist, I don't know - better ask them...

No apparent problem with the computer??..

To be on a safe side, please run this online scan for me:

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner
Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer (32 bit version - Start --> All programs --> Internet Explorer) for this scan. Internet Explorer must be run as administrator - right click and choose: Run as administrator.
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the ActiveX control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the options Remove found threats and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
  • Click Scan
Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use Notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files (x86)\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic

Hi Snemelk!
First let me thank you for doing this for me. I really appreciate it! :thumbup2:

To answer your question; so far there is nothing out of the ordinary with my computer, everything is running smoothly. I was just worried that perhaps there was something that I was missing. Good news is I am no longer blocked by the University's network so I think your theory might be right.

And finally here is the Eset log:

Hi again jry370!!.. :)

First let me thank you for doing this for me. I really appreciate it!

No problem!.. :)

If everything runs smoothly, and all scans come clean, I guess you're good to go!..

I can only suggest upgrading Adobe Reader to the tenth version and your Windows 7 to Service Pack 1...

To update Adobe Acrobat Reader:
- uninstall version 9.4 first
- download and install the newest version from here: Adobe Reader X

Note: I suggest you uncheck an optional, third-party download (eg. McAfee Security Scan Plus).

After successfully installing Adobe Reader X, see this article on how to make this program more secure: Adobe Reader X secures itself by playing in the sandbox.
