Posted 01 March 2011 - 11:57 AM

I was told by the people at the Total War forums that my computer should be able to run Shogun 2 Total War on medium settings on my ATI Radeon 4670 card. While the game demo itself was running smoothly, but during the first tutorial battle the computer suddenly froze and then the screen was a sickly yellow. I was running the computer on High Performance on the Power Options section of the Control Panel. I think I have the latest patch for the graphics in there, though I don't know if I have some of the stuff from the glitchy ATI driver update from Steam which was giving me similar issues only with a gray screen instead of a yellow one. I got that Steam driver update on the 22nd I believe and the current update on the 27th of February. Any way to fix this issue?

Eh is there another way to post specs without having to use software you have to pay for? I have CPUID that posts specs in sections. I can take screen shots of what it shows me if you want.

Have you updated your video card drivers?

I updated them from ATIs site this Sunday. Is it possible files from the old driver are still there? I can't roll back my graphics driver for some reason.

Download the latest driver from AMD, and then download this Driver Sweeper and just remove the graphics driver.

I got an error downloading Driver Sweeper saying "Unable to execute file:(file location) CreateProcess failed; code 740. The requested operation requires elevation."

Edit: The program itself seems to work. How do I remove graphics drivers on it?

Yup open it up, and it should prompt you for what you want to remove should list ATI/Nvidia and what not.

Ok I did all that and I am still getting either a freeze, or a freeze and a yellow screen (noticed the yellow screen only happens when computer is set for high performance). I am wondering if its just this driver or the game. I do remember getting gray screens from my other 3D games after doing the Steam driver update. Do you think I should clear the drivers again and use the disk the came with?

To these problems I am having now, not that I know of. But I admit I haven't been able to mess with it much. Both worked fine on high settings. Before I updated the drivers from the ATI page before it was giving me gray screens for Starcraft 2 and Team Fortress 2 (when it happened to those I KNEW it was a driver problem as I didn't have that problem before). After that Team Fortress 2 mostly works with the occasional regular crash (though I don't need to restart the computer for those). How long should I run both of them before I should consider them working ok?

I need to do some University work now but I think I will experiment with Fallout New Vegas and Starcraft 2 when I get a chance.

Sorry for the bump, but I was playing Fallout New Vegas on High setting for a while and I didn't have any problems with it. I am wondering if the people at the Total War forums were mistaken when they said I can run Shogun 2 on Medium settings. Does anyone here think these settings will work (new settings since I reinstalled the driver).

When was the last time you opened the case up and cleaned it?

You meet the requirements.
