Any search I make on google gives me the "file download - security warning" Box then Name: search, Type: unknown file type, and from: google and then asks " Do you want to save or find a program to run this file"

This is on google and igoogle sites. I did a search on it on the web and although other people have similar problems, no one knows hows to stop it.

Worth looking at, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937409

From what I see, the problem is also related to IE 7. What version of IE are you using?

As for Google...I suspect that you have the toolbar or some such add-on installed which is damaged...just a wild guess. I would uninstall all such and, if I felt necessary, reinstall.

Installing IE8, if you don't have it, might cure this.

Thanks Louis,

I uninstalled the google toolbar and installed IE8. Still have the problem using both Bing and google but not my.yahoo. Would malware removal help?

I temporarily lowered the security level for browsing on the google tool bar, but didn't help.

I can get any of my google page links but when I type in a search I get this:
File Download - Security Warning

Name: Search
Type: Unknown file type
From: www.google.com

Check boxes for RUN Save and CANCEL

Hi philby -
You could also try to remove the Bing search and only use the Google and Yahoo search engines -
I found that this helped my searches -
You could also try a Quick scan with Free Malwarebytes for any infections - Link below - Make sure you update to the latest version -

Thank You -
