I have been having issues with many different things and troubleshooting continuously.
Here is a list of problems.

When browsing my files, sometimes large folders, I get windows explorer lag. Such as seems as though all my resources are going to opening a explorer window.
Other things lag, programs windows etc.
HDDs seem to be not being read at this time.
Installing programs also has major lag when looking for configuration.
15 minutes to start installing a program, no matter what size of program.
When checking performance monitor is shows that HDD is reading.

Recently I am working on installing SP1 for Win 7 64 but gives me an error code 80070079

I have did scans VIA avast and Malewarebytes, with nothing showing up.

This has been happening for some time and thought it was limited to new installs, but now it is getting worse and think that it is either something with the windows explorer shell or one of the HDDs.

Any info I can give or any help for this will be greatly appreciated.

Is this an upgrade from another OS (win XP or Vista)?
Did you buy the computer with Win7 already installed?
What is the Comp manufacturer? We need more detailed info for us to help you. :)

The pc is a me custom. I build my own pcs.
The sp1 that I am installing is from MS via update.
When I installed win7 early la
st year it was full version on new HDD.
This is a newer issue that started late last year.

VEW may be able to let us know what the problems are caused by...

Download VEW by Vino Rosso http://images.malwareremoval.com/vino/VEW.exe
and save it to your desktop

Running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will need to right click the file and select Run as administrator and click Continue or Allow at the User Account Control Prompt.

Click the check boxes next to Application and System located under Select log to query on the upper left

Under Select type to list on the right click the boxes next to Error and Warning Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 also click the box next to Critical (not XP).

Under Number or date of events select Number of events and type 20 in the box next to 1 to 20 and click Run

Once it finishes it will display a log file in notepad. Copy and paste its entire contents into your next reply

Do you have carbonite.com backup? If you do, what time of day is it set to back up your files? (it isn't connecting, BTW)

That was loaded after the inital problem, in safe mode it never runs. I disabled it when installing SP1.
I figured with all the issues the PC has had, may be a good investment since only backup I have atm is a external HDD, and BR burner. But all of those are on site, off site backup is something that looked good for an investment.
Except I am backing up almost a Terabyte, so initial is taking a while.
I have 6 HDDs even though during this problem only one is being looked at.

Akk! :woot: what a problem! Try flushing your DNS cache and restoring MS's Hosts file. I can't guarantee that this will work.

Copy and paste these lines in Note pad.

@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0

Save as flush.bat to your desktop. Right click to run as Administrator. Your computer will reboot itself.

You may need to to do a 'clean' install or a 'repair' install. You can find both of these tutorials here:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

why would resetting IP configurations have anything to do with the current problem ?
lag when installing some programs when it looks for configurations. And timeout with Installing SP1 update.

Not sure how this got to be about carbonite, since it has nothing to do with carbonite. That works fine, just a lot of data since it is so much of it.

The reason I mentioned only one drive is the issue is because when installing SP1 or various other things the read and write are only going on C: because that is where my main windows install is.

Carbonite sees all drives fine and is currently backing up my picture file that is on drive K:

I can try this fix but not sure of what it has to do with the current problem : please explain.

Ok possible solved ( needs more testing )
After troubleshooting many things, I decided to do a scandisk (error check) or whatever Win7 calls it.
Ran it on reboot w/o windows, it found 6 unreadable errors, some routing errors and various other errors.
After that finished I tried doing windows update and installing SP1 update again.
This time it went , and after restarting things seemed faster and more smooth.
Still going to check if any more installs have problems or if I still have any issues, but so far it seems good.
I will post if I have anymore issues.

Thanks for helping
