Why do some programs which I download try to install to Program Files as is the norm, and others try to install to Program Files (x86), if they're all compatible with Win7 x64, and some are even specific to Win7 x64?

Is there any harm in deleting the (x86) from the attempted destination folder when I download, so that I don't have two folders for my downloaded programs? I'm all about consolidation.

Thanks!

Some programs come ready to be compatible for x64 and x86. Since windows 7 can be either, it installs both sets, just in case, to reduce compatibility issues.

Ahhh I see. Should I not delete the (x86) part from the destination then?
