I have a older dell laptop that had a pirated version of xp on it and now they gave it to me with the black screen with white text saying "corrupt windows system32 config system". The machine has a 2000 pro key on the bottom on the laptop so I assumed try to reinstall 2000 since I have a key for it. I could not locate a Dell Oem install disk. I found a generic 2000 iso via torrent (i know, i know). I wiped out the partition via the blue screen and after the yellow progress bar finished up. It would reboot to a black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner. Any ideas?

That would usually indicate that the install had an error, I would say your install disc that you have is bad.

I will only comment that...using any torrent for an O/S...leaves you totally unaware of what else is within the files that you chose to install.

If I wanted to distribute malware of any type...I could not do by any easier method in today's Internet climate.

FWIW: Typical black screen with blinking cursor...indicates a problem with the MBR in XP.
