ubuntu internet connection help

After I've downloaded ubuntu os I tried to connect to the internet, but is says that there is no networks available when mine should be there.

Which version of ubuntu are you using and what are the specs of your computer. Are you using a wire or wireless? Start the terminal program and enter ifconfig and iwconfig one at a time and they will return an ip address if it is getting one. ubuntu can be a little fussy with some wireless adapters. I had some fun getting mine set up with 10.4.
