Is software from PC Tools legitimate or is it a scam - one that actually puts malware on your computer? One computer tech I spoke to believes it's suspicious.

PC Tools is legit. They are a vendor for utilities, anti-virus, Spyware Doctor and other security software. See here.

You probably need to start getting advice from anther "computer tech" if they did not know as this vendor has been around for years.
