I've always relied on bleeping computer to assist me in cleaning up virus/malware infection in my office, but i have one that has completely stumped me. I have a notebook from one of my mobile users that was brought in last week because all the icons on desktop completely disappeared, Windows Explorer repeatedly shutdowns down unexpectedly and is completely slow. There are several SVCHOSTS processes utilizing a huge combination of memory and the HDD indication never stops. I've ran RKILL and proceeded with Super AntiSpyware Scans and MalwareBytes AntiMalware; during each of these scans, explorer would BSOD and system restart; i would resume the scan and the report would indicate noting was found. I even performed the scans in safemode with the same results, which tells me there is a possible ROOTKIT Infection.
In taskmanager, creating new tasks, browse button, i can see all icons on desktop. I am at a loss on this and therefor seek your help.
The notebook is running Windows 7 x64, 2GB RAM, Intel® Core™ i5-460M, 220GB HDD
