This started when several people reported that Firefox was popping up an error message when they logged in to an eClassroom computer. Firefox has encountered a problem and must shut down. We are sorry for any inconvenience. If you send the error report or just close the box everything appears to work normally. The browser is not supposed to launch on log in. I found two firefox.exe Image Names in the Task Manager/Task List with 24148K and 30476K. If I kill them they respawn at a lower Memory Usage but they grow with use. If I change the default browser to IE I don't get the error message at log in but I do get rouge instances of iexplorer.exe in the Task Manager with the same respawn when killed. I reimaged most of the infected systems but I don't have anything that will prevent this from coming back. I don't know the vector they are using to enter the systems. I was running McAfee Enterprise 8.7 with up to date DATs.

As a secondary note of interest we are also seeing a worm that infects USB drives upon insertion. It changes the drive name to PENDRIVE G:/ on the MyComputer window. McAfee does not detect this either. I removed McAfee and installed Microsoft Security Essentials on this system. I took a brand new fresh from the pack USB drive and inserted it into the computer and MSE reports it is infected and cleans it. But it doesn't see the infection running on the computer itself even after a complete full scan.

I installed malwarebytes but no help. I ran the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal tool with no help.

That is when I decided to turn to you guys for help. Here are my logs.

* Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Once the program has loaded and updates were downloaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
