Hello there,

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with my problem.

It all started mre than a months ago, when my browser got hijacked. At that time I could still connect to the Internet to download my emails with Pegasus Mail and to update Windows.

I did research on the Internet and found hijackthis, lspfix and combofix. Hijackthis deleted the entry in my host file and lsp fixed my lsp chain. After this my Internet connection worked for half a day. And then I had the same problem again.

So I tried to restore my system with the Lenovo Restore and Recovery Tool and then that was it. My computer could not boot anymore;

Since I bought the laptop with all the software pre-installed I did not have any CDs. So I looked for a Vista CD here (in Senegal), which took me almost 4 weeks.

Then I installed Vista, and my Internet was working for 3 or 4 days. Then the hijacker appeared again and now most of the time I cannot connect to the Internet at all. I can only connect locally, even if the signal is sufficient and packages are sent and received.

Since then I have restored and reinstalled my system several times but to no avail. I have formatted the drive and deleted all partitions but it is always the same story.

I tried to re-install the network adapter because combofix told me that there is a problem but I cannot install the driver that I have downloaded. The system tells me that it has encountered a problem when installing the driver.

I tried to reset the tcp/ip setting but I dont think it worked.

I reset the winsock setting.

Now I am really out of ideas and I really hope that someone can help me because I need my computer.
I have attached the dds log. I will also attach the gmer log but I made amistake I did not uncheck the Show all. The problem is that since I dont have Internet I copied the instructions to wordpad, but there I cannot see the pictures; Therefore I was not sure, if I sould check or uncheck the box. The next time I m at the cyber I will post the correct gmer log file.

For themoment Iwould appreciate it, if some one could look into this topic and give me some advice.

I have to stop here nowbecause I am running out of time. I will be back here on Monday;
(gmer file was too big to upload)

Thanks a lot in advance

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

Hi Gringo,

here is the Combofix report. The oem1.inf is the driver for the network card. Since Combofix had complained before about this driver, I downloaded the driver from the Internet and installed it instead of the orignal driver that I had backup on my external. But I guess the driver is not the problem.

After running ComboFix, the Internet Explorer appeared on my desktop. That surprised me a bit.

Since the weekend I cannot even connect to the router anymore. The computer recognizes that a wireless LAN is available but when I want to connect to it, Windows tells me that it cannot connect to the network. The computer is not even tying to establish the connection. It tells me right away that it is not possible. Over the weekend I was trying to reset and optimize the tcp/ip setting because I was hoping that this would solve the problem. The upload speed improved but the download speed did not change at all and I could not connect to the Internet. And then later I could not even connect to the router again - as I said above. So I guess, I did something stupid and changed something. Even after uninstalling the tcp/ip driver and resetting the settings the problem persisted. So I guess the problem must be somewhere else.

I would like to ask you two things:
Does it mean that the boot sector is affected since the problem persists even after formatting and reinstalling the computer?

I have two .wim files in my backup on my external drive - one is a recovery file and the other one is the factory recovery file. I found an explanation on the Internet how to boot the computer from a .wim file (which I have not completely understood yet). Do you think that might be a viable option, if all else fails, to try to reset the computer to its original state. Or do you think that the virus will still be there?

Thanks, Gringo.Attached File  ComboFix.txt   5.91KB   5 downloads

Hello

have you tried to connect directly to the modem and see if there is a problem?

we are going to check the router

Create and Run Batch File
Open Notepad and copy/paste the entire contents of the codebox below, into Notepad:
@echo off
>Log1.txt (
ipconfig /all
nslookup google.com
nslookup yahoo.com
ping -n 2 google.com
ping -n 2 yahoo.com
route print
)
start Log1.txt
del %0
Save this as router.bat Choose to Save type as - All Files and where to save - Desktop - then close the Notepad file.

It should look like this: Posted Image <--XP
Double-click on router.bat to run it. it will open notepad when done please post back the results

Hello,

the router should not have a problem since other people are using the router without having any problems.

I was thinking to take my laptop to the cyber next Monday to see if I can connect via LAN cable. The problem is that at home I cannot use a cable because I am connecting to a router across the street, so I need my Wifi to be working.

Have a good weekend. I'll be back here on Monday

Hi Gringo,

the weekend we are going to the village. There is no Internet connection, that is why you don't hear from Sat/Sun.

I have attached the result of the router.bat

On Friday, my Internet connection worked, even though the computer told me that I could only connect locally. I opened the IE and voila, there it was, the Internet. But after 2 or 3 seconds the hijacker cut in again and the browser got redirected. The Windows update works but I cannot update my antivirus software. I always get a HTTP 307 error. So now it is back to how it was in the beginning.

Tomorrow I'll tell you if changing the dns settings worked or not.
