This is my first post. I recently was suffering from a google redirect virus/trojan/whatever. Every time I searched something on google and received results, the links I clicked on automatically redirected me to something called "monster marketplace". I got fed up with Avast!, Spybot S&D, and Trend on-line scanners not taking care of it, so I started fiddling with hijackthis. Yea, I know, "fiddling" isn't what anyone wants to hear when it comes to computer registries and the lot. Anyway.
Still no success, so I use google to search the problem. The only "solution" I see is using combofix. I see it's a "powerful tool" one shouldn't use lightly. Well, I got sick of this crap so I ran combofix. It does its thing and when it's done, no more issue. Web runs way faster! I guess the registry key errors have been fixed? I don't know, so I hope someone can glance at my most recent (post-combofix) hijackthis and the combofix logs.
Does it look clear? Does anyone want to criticize me for using a hammer to squish a fly? I've gone through life unable to use the "easy" or "softer" options for many things and have had to go "nuclear". Comments will be appreciated.
Oh yea, after combofix completed, many of my icons on my desktop disappeared. Many programs do not have their graphic icon available anymore; it's just a Windows generic shortcut icon. Why is this?
Thanks a lot folks. Too bad computers are so finicky and infect-able!
