ok, little background info:
i live a bit out in the sticks and can't get any 'normal' broadband packages.
so i have to pay 17 a month for sky 'connect'
but for the last 8 months or so, the speed has varied massively and for long periods been terrible.
ranging from 5mbps, rarely, good speed is usually 1-2mbps and occasionally 2-3mbps, and it goes down to 100-200kbps (kb not KB) it can be very random, but its effected the worst at 5pm to about 1am (i know this is peak time) but going down to 100kbps seems crazy on a broadband connection to me. and my ping varies hugely too, from 100ms to 800ms - which is important to me as it stops me gaming
i done some further research and it seems my local exchange is congested.
anyway, i got a call from talk talk, saying they could give me a business line with a contention ratio of 20:1 (i think sky is 50:1) for the same price as the sky connection.
would this help increase my speed or is the exchange being congested unsolvable by changing the contention ratio.
thanks for your time
