Recurring infections. I think there's an underlying infection I can't find

My daughter's computer is having recurring infections. The first she noticed was a fake anti-virus. We are running SOPHOS which didn't find it. I finally found and removed the fake antivirus using AVG but new infections keep poping up, many of which are caught by Sophos (sorry i didn't keep a log of specifically which ones). They are not the same malware every time so I suspect she has something undiscovered that keeps going to the internet and downloading new viruses. She left the computer on last night and today it had browsers open with porn sites on them. Unfortunately, she turned it off without recording which sites they were.

I've also run MalwareBytes on the machine and it has not detected anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
