I just got an e-mail from the WinAmp forum admin saying that their user database had been compromised and that my e-mail and possibly other data had been stolen.

This is the third such e-mail I've gotten in as many months, starting with Gawker in December, then SourceForge in January and now WinAmp in February.

Is it me, or are the successful attacks against large user databases increasing?

Did you verify the origin of the e-mail?

Guess I would be out of line asking why you're on other websites instead of moderating here. :P Then you wouldn't have to worry about breaches.

The Internet is so big, so powerful and pointless that for some people it is a complete substitute for life.

Was just a thought.

Then, yes. I would have to agree there dose seem to have been an increase in database break ins. Just one of several reasons I do`t participate in a lot of sites that require much info for usage.

Data bases and the information contained is big money for those in the cyber-criminal\spam trade.
