I have a Lenovo S10 "ideapad" netbook with a broken screen.
Up untill yesterday I have been using an external monitor connected to the VGA output.
I use this netbook at the office and when working from home: yesterday when I connected it to my home monitor and booted up like always. Everything was normal, it booted up fine, I logged in.
About 5 seconds after the desktop being loaded up, the screen went black, and my monitor went into input seek (if it is not plugged into something it says no input; this is just a black screen and the status light goes between inputs A and B (its a dual input monitor)). The computer was still powered on, all status lights normal, just no output from the VGA port.

Have you tried the Monitor on another computer to rule out that it is or is not the problem?

Was the Netbook charged/plugged in, or enter power saving mode?
