Hello
I have a home built computer with an attitude. It reboots randomly at any time with no warning. This can occur whether I am taxing the system or even if its just sitting idle. The mouse pointer and screen will freeze, then it reboots. This can happen 3 times an hour or go days without one occurrence. Its totally random and I would like some help to figure out the problem.
I am running Windows 7 with a Gigabyte motherboard. 4 GB RAM, AMD Athlon II x2 245 processor @ 2.9 GHz. A Radeon X300 series graphics card, and 475W power supply.
Thanks in advance for any help!

1) Go to System Properties - Advanced - Startup & Recovery Settings and uncheck "automatically restart". Next time there's an error instead of a reboot you'll see a blue screen.
2) Download BlueScreenView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

Everything points to your ATI Driver. I suggest you visit their site and download and install the latest driver.

It ran fine for a while after updating the ATI driver, then abruptly rebooted after about 10 minutes of watching streaming video. No blue screen and no event information in the minidump folder of Windows. Looks like back to square one. Any chance this could be a power supply issue?

Did you disable "restart on error" as suggested above? If so then yes, it may very well be a hardware issue of some sort.

I have seen a problem like this twice. Both times it was a memory issue. I would try running a memory test on each stick of memory, one at a time, and make sure they are all fine. Double check that the speeds match up from memory to mobo.

Also, check the temperature to make sure it's not over heating.

I ran memory tests and everything came up with no errors. I also downloaded "speedfan", and the temps are:
temp #1 37C, temp #2 27C, temp #3 80C (??), HD0 38C, and Core 29C Seems like temp #3 is a bit much whatever temp that is recording.

See if you get the same readings with HWMonitor http://majorgeeks.com/HWMonitor_d5842.html

EDIT to add ... don't install the Ask toobar/search feature!

Jacee
I installed as you suggested. The temps are:
TMPIN0-36C
TMPIN1-26C
TMPIN2-80C

PROCESSOR CORE TEMP IS 28C

HD TEMP IS 30C

Hope this sheds some light on this mess
