Hi,

First time here so I apologize if I miss posting any essential information.

I am remotely helping a Windows XP Pro SP3 user using RDP who has been infected with the "antivirus. NET" malware. I was able to have them boot into Safe mode with networking to get MalwareBytes installed, updated and run, which seemed to remove the bulk of the "antivirus. NET" popups she was getting, but I was still getting some redirects while browsing with both IE 8 and Firefox. After updating AVG 9 she started to periodically get popup warnings from AVG about "Downloader.Zlob.AUUX" that was trying to be accessed via "c:\windows\svchost.exe" process. At that point I installed SpyBot, updated it, ran it and cleaned up anything it found, then installed Ad-aware 9, updated it, ran it, and cleaned up anything it found. This seems to have stopped the AVG popup warning about "Downloader.Zlob.AUUX", but I'm sure there is stuff left over and/or running still. I have been unable to do any of the Windows Updates since every time I try to hit any of the update sites using either IE or Chrome (for checking) I would get the generic, "page cannot be displayed" or "The webpage not available" error. For the heck of it I tried to use the secure link https://windowsupdate.microsoft.com on IE and that page did come up but the section where you select either "Express" or "Custom" comes up with Error number: 0x80072EFF.
