Hi,
My Hard disk developed bad clusters. Unfortunately my backup software (Acronis)
didn't 'see' them!
So all my backups were useless and I had go back to the Win install CD.
Again, unfortunately there were scratches on the CD so about 10 files weren't
installed.

Any suggestions ? PLEASE ...

Pete

How bad is the media scratched?

The first thing I would do is to try a scratch repair kit on the cd if its not really bad.
They are cheap. You can get them at your local Walmart or Dollar Store for about 10 bucks.
See if you can buff out as many scratches as you can then immediately make a copy of the cd & try the copy.
Ive done this successfully many times before.
In the beginning there was the command line.

One thing I have found to work on occasion when dealing with a scratched CD, OS disks included, is to copy the contents of the CD to a folder on the hard drive. Have had some success in this method recovering\restoring the damaged files. Then using an iso burning program of your choice burn them back to a CD as an iso.

Imgburn is recommended repeatedly here and is capable of creating an iso from folder contents.

Have a look at the following topic:

Need help with rescuing corrupted XP installation disc with Linux Ubuntu

You will find instructions there for recovering the data from a CD: How badly it is damaged will determine the outcome.
