I have a Toshiba M35X-S349 laptop on which the screen went dark. I can still see the display using a flashlight and can use the laptop with an external monitor so I know that either the LCD inverter or the CCFL has gone bad. On the premise that the inverter is usually the culprit, I have ordered one of those, but in the event that doesn't fix it and I need to replace the CCFL, I was wondering if those are interchangeable among computers if the screen size is the same. I have an old Compaq Presario R3000 that is destined for the e-waste dump that has the same nominal screen size as the Toshiba. I know the screen works on that computer. Can I harvest the CCFL out of it and put it in the Toshiba? The reason I ask is that it seems like some sellers on ebay are selling CFFLs according to size rather than specifically for individual computer models. I haven't taken the computers apart yet to see if the lamps look alike, but even if they do I wouldn't want to damage the Toshiba or my new inverter by installing an incompatible part.
