I loaded Win 7 on a compaq presario v2000, which originally had win xp on it. Anyways windows 7 loaded fine, the only thing is that when I look in device manager, there is one entry called mass storage controller that has a yellow exclamation mark on it. I have uninstalled it and did a 'scan for hardware changes', and initially the computer says 'installing driver' but ends up saying 'device driver not installed successfully'. Where can I find this driver? Its not listed on the hp site for my computer.

There are two changes I made, and Im wondering if that is why I dont have a driver for the mass storage controller. First, the system originally had windows xp on it, and second, the processor is a 64 bit AMD turion and the operating system I installed is 32 bit.

If those arent what would cause the issue then I dont know why Im facing the problem. Helppppppppppppp

Does it say USB Mass Storage Controller, or just Mass Storage Controller?

Broni,
its just say mass storage controller

jacee,
I know I can disable it, but why is it not getting loaded or where does one get that driver

Note to all: I also noticed that every so often when Im playing a video like on youtube or maybe a dvd from my cd drive, the screen goes off every so oftenm then comes back and there is a notification bubble that says 'your video adapter stopped because of an error and has recovered successfully'

Let's try to find out, which "mass storage" we're dealing here with. Hard drive, or something else.

1. Right click on "Mass Storage Controller" and click on Properties.
2. Under the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id (or Device Instance Path) from the drop down box.
3. You should see a code similar to this

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27DC&SUBSYS_30868086
&REV_01\4&1E46F438&0&40F0

4. The portion of the code highlighted in RED is the Vendor ID and the portion highlighted in GREEN is the Device ID. In this example:

Vendor ID = 8086
Device ID = 27DC

5. Once you have obtained both the IDs, proceed to PCI Database. There you can either search for the vendor from the vendor ID or directly get information about the device along with the vendor name by searching with the device ID.

6. Then from there you can go directly to the hardware manufactureres website and get the driver.

Broni:
I did what you said and this is what it reports

PCI\VEN_104C&DEV_8033&SUBSYS_3091103C&REV_00\4&13826118&0&4BA4

So then vendor=104C and device is 8033. The other site says the vendor is texas instruments and the device is Integrated flashmedia controller. But I dont see a download link for that driver. I went to the texas instruments site and I dont know how to search for drivers. What me do now

True.
Unfortunately, all links I tried have dead ends at TI site.
You can dig little bit more by yourself: http://www.google.com/search?q=Texas+Instruments+PCIxx21+Integrated+FlashMedia+Controller&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a

Ill do some more digging, but its looking like I may have to call them. :(

On another note, whenever I play a video, the display goes blank at times and then comes back with a little alert that says 'your video controller stopped working and has now recovered successfully'. Wonder if that is related in any way
