I recently attempted to defrag after disk cleanup on XP. I have always been able to do this by simply going to All Programs then Accessories then System Tools then disk cleanup and on to DeFragging. I am now seeing a window pop up with this message Chkdsk/f with the instructions to go to that. I have never had that before and I have no idea what it is. If this is legit, how do I use it to go on to the defragging? If not, how do I get rid of it. Thanks!

Boot to the XP CD and choose the first repair option - that will take you to the recovery console. Once there, run chkdsk /r
It will take a while - let it finish. If you don't have an XP cd post back and we'll do it the other way.
