Hello,
I am helping a friend with their pc and the internet is working in safe mode with networking only. When in standard mode, it shows I am connected and I can ping websites with cmd and receive packets, but I cannot connect with IE8 or firefox, and no programs can connect to update.

This happened after malwarebytes cleaned malware from this pc. It also, showed that avira antivirus was having a problem, but when I checked in add remove programs avira is not in there.

It is running xp with service pack 3.
It is an emachines el 1200

With the information you have provided I believe you will need help from the malware removal team. I would like you to start a new thread and post a DDS log HERE and include a link to this thread. Please make sure that you read the information about getting started before you start your thread.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient. Help is on the way!

thnak you for giving me the info for posting in malware forum. I have saved it to favorites. I do not need it now though. When i turned on the pc this morning, an update for ie 8 came in and now it is working. Apparently that fixed the corruption. Thank you

Well. I thought it was solved until I tried to install the free avast. When I install the avast antivirus, the browser stops connecting. I think perhaps the reason it began working was that i had uninstalled the avira that was on the pc. I am making the dds log now and will post back in a few minutes.
