Got the DOS/Alureon.A infection and used TDSSKiller.exe to remove from unbootable hard disk pluged into another pc as a usb drive. I then tried to reinstall the drive in the pc and boot the win7 os. I get to "starting windows" then a quick flash of blue screen then the pc restarts.

I plugged the drive in as a usb drive again and ran GMER 1.0.15.15530 and generated a (ark.txt) report.

Not sure where to go from here. The drive is still un-bootable. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Tim

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Somethings to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please Do not Attach logs or put in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

Click on the Watch Topic Button and select Immediate Notification and click on proceed, this will help you to get notified faster when I have replied and make the cleaning process faster.

Please do the following:

Please start your system and tap F10 repeatedly, you should be taken to the "Edit Boot Options" screen.

You should see the following:

Edit Windows boot options for: Windows 7

Path: \Windows\System32\winload.exe

Partition: 1
Hard Disk: {Some random looking numbers}

[ /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /MININT [] ]

This is what you should have:

[ /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN] without the /MININT []

so please delete the /MININT [] part from that entry (make sure the brackets are left around the entry)

(Note: If there is anything there other than /MININT [] please let me know before doing anything else)

Reboot the machine - It should start normally now - then do the following:

Start > type CMD > Right click the CMD program and select "Run as Administrator"

Then please copy/paste the below command into the command prompt window and hit enter:

bcdedit /set {current} winpe no

reboot ( the OS should start as usual)

now do the following:

Start > type CMD > Right click the CMD program and select "Run as Administrator"

Then please copy/paste the below command to the command prompt window and hit enter:

bcdedit /deletevalue {current} winpe

Reboot, things should be back to normal now:

Let me know how that goes

Hello

That is great - lets go thru and make sure the computer is clean now.

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

I guess I spoke too soon.....after entering the last command (bcdedit /deletevalue {current} winpe) and restarting, I have the same symptoms. A quick flash of the blue screen then shutdown and restart. It seems that while in the (bcdedit /set {current} winpe no) mode the pc will boot to the desktop but as soon as I enter the (bcdedit /deletevalue {current} winpe) command and restart I have the same problem.

I am running win7 x64

What do you recommend?

Thank you,

Tim

No BSOD after entering bcdedit /set {current} winpe no and I am able to logon to the desktop. Can I run ComboFix in this mode?

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
