Does anyone know how to change the hard drive in a xbox 360. I just purchased one for Christmas and I think it has 4.0gb. I have downloaded some game add ons and I am worried that I may run out of room. I was thinking about upgrading to a 120gb hard drive. If I upgrade the hard drive, how will I transfer the existing information to the new hard drive? Thanks!!!!

Hello.

You can purchase a data transfer cable that will allow you to move information to another HDD.

Alternatively, you can use a high capacity USB drive to move data.

I have never done a hard drive transfer. Where can I purchase the cable. What would the steps be if I were to transfer the data from existing hard drive to the new one. Thanks!!!!!

You could buy the cable at your local game store.

A transfer cable should be available wherever they sell xbox. You could also purchase one online from Microsoft.

Here's a tutorial on how to move your data over to the new hard drive.

Good luck!

I posted in your other thread on transfers. the 360 S requires no cables to transfer from the 4 GB internal storage to the 250GB Hard Drive.

Since the xbox had no hdd when I purchased it, all I have to do is purchase the 250gb and insert it into the slot if I am understanding you and all of the exixting information will transfer?

To my understanding you do not need a cable to transfer game data from the internal 4GB to the HDD its just a plug and play although i have never done it. If you try it and it works please PM me so I will know for future reference.

I thought the 360 used proprietary hard drives, you would have to buy a drive for the 360 from Microsoft. Assuming the 4GB is internal storage not on a disk in the drive bay, you should be able to simply add a drive.

I do not understand why you want to rip data from internal disk to external? I have a 120Gb disk connected and I choose one of the data storage discs, both are connected
